The Government of India joined the global community in celebrating International Sun Day, emphasizing the important role of solar energy in enabling a greener and healthier planet.
Marking the occasion, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), organized a 'Run for Sun' Marathon at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
The 'Run for Sun' Marathon, comprising 3 km and 5 km races, aimed to raise awareness about the pivotal role of solar power in mitigating climate change and promoting a cleaner and healthier future for all. The event expressed the nation's commitment to solar energy and environmental sustainability.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhupinder S. Bhalla, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, reiterated the government's dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions. "The Marathon aligns perfectly with the Government's vision to promote physical fitness and well-being, wherein we encouraged citizens to embrace an active lifestyle while championing the cause of renewable energy. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants whose enthusiasm and support made this event a resounding success," he said.
In addition to the marathon, another highlight of the International Sun Day celebrations was the introduction of Solar Stops in six cities across India. These kiosks featured diverse installations showcasing the significance of solar energy. Set up at malls in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Vadodara, Guwahati, Varanasi, and Chennai, the Solar Stops aimed to educate citizens about the innovative and eco-friendly aspects of solar energy.
The Ministry also announced 'Solart,' an All-India Intra-School Solar Art Competition. This initiative seeks to celebrate solar energy through artistic expressions and promote awareness among school students across the country. Winners of the competition, as adjudged by schools, will receive commendation certificates from the MNRE.
