Kolhapur Zilla Dudh Utpadak Sangh, popularly known as Gokul Dairy, has acquired 18 acres of land in the solar park of Karmala tehsil, Solapur district, to establish a solar power generation plant.

The milk dairy in Maharashtra has secured a INR 34 crore loan from the National Dairy Development Board for this venture which will be handled by a Pune-based firm.

The generated power will be supplied to the state grid, allowing Gokul Dairy to procure electricity at more affordable rates. Arun Dongale, the dairy chairperson, highlighted that the decision to delve into solar power aims at reducing power bills.

This strategic move is anticipated to save approximately INR 6.5 crores annually on electricity expenses. Dongale emphasized that this step aligns with Gokul's commitment to fiscal responsibility in the new year.
