Godawari Power and Ispat Forays into BESS Manufacturing, to Set Up 10 GWh Plant in Maharashtra

Godawari Power and Ispat is stepping into battery storage manufacturing with a 10 GWh BESS facility planned in Maharashtra through its new subsidiary, Godawari New Energy, with an initial investment of INR 700 crore.

Godawari Power and Ispat (GPIL), a HIRA Group company, has announced its plan to foray into battery energy storage systems (BESS) manufacturing with an initial capacity of 10 GWh, through its recently formed subsidiary Godawari New Energy.

The company has approved an initial investment of about INR 700 crore for setting up the facility in Maharashtra, it stated in a regulatory filing, further adding that it has secured 112 acre of land for the BESS plant.

The company further stated that 40 percent of the capex will be funded through equity investment while the balance 60 percent will be raised through debt.  

GNEPL was incorporated in June 2025 with its registered office in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

GPIL has also announced that it will expand the capacity of its existing 165 MW captive solar power plant by another 125 MW, taking the total capacity to 290 MW. The company will be investing about INR 395 crore for the expansion. “Land acquisition has been completed for additional solar capacity (125 MW) for captive use of 2MnT pellet plant, beneficiation plant at Ari Dongri and SMS Expansion. Orders have been placed and construction work has started,” the company stated in the regulatory filing.

Further, the company has approved setting up another 250 MW captive solar power plant at an investment of about INR 750 crore, for meeting power requirement of ISP and CRM, the company stated.
