The Goa government has introduced a new scheme to encourage wider adoption of grid connected rooftop solar systems, offering eligible consumers financial assistance of up to 50 percent of the applicable benchmark cost.

The Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Promotion Scheme will provide state support to residential consumers installing rooftop solar systems, with assistance available for systems of up to 10 kWp. The initiative will supplement the central financial assistance provided under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Under the scheme, group housing societies, resident welfare associations and educational institutions can also receive financial support for eligible rooftop installations, while commercial and industrial consumers will be covered subject to specified conditions.

The programme allows rooftop systems connected through net metering, group net metering and virtual net metering arrangements. Consumers must have a valid permanent electricity connection with the state electricity department to qualify.

The scheme, implemented through the Goa Energy Development Agency, is effective from April 1, 2026, and will remain operational until March 31, 2028. The state is targeting the addition of 65 MW of rooftop solar capacity during 2026-27, with the subsidy programme expected to support faster deployment of distributed solar generation.
