Global wind energy capacity is on track to surpass 2 terawatts (TW) by 2030, underpinned by strong growth across Asia and record installations worldwide, according to new data released by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).

GWEC said 2025 marked a record year, with global wind installations expected to reach 150 GW, an upward revision of 8.8 percent (13.3 GW) from earlier forecasts. Accelerated deployment across Asia-Pacific markets was the key driver of this growth.

India recorded its highest-ever annual installation of 6.3 GW, while Europe added 16.5 GW, around 5 GW more than in 2024. The United States is expected to install over 7 GW, and China is on course to exceed 100 GW in a single year, with 89 GW installed by November 2025.

GWEC noted that by the end of the decade, Asia-Pacific markets excluding China will account for 12 percent of global wind installations, with countries such as Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines rapidly scaling capacity to support economic growth and rising electricity demand.

The council highlighted that wind energy deployment is increasingly aligned with GDP growth, particularly in emerging economies, as nations seek to decouple economic expansion from emissions while ensuring energy security.
