The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has unlocked USD 1 billion in financing to support India’s clean energy transition, improving energy access for 49 million people, creating or supporting 2.2 million jobs, and reducing 166 million tons of carbon emissions.

The announcement comes with the release of GEAPP’s 2025 Impact Report, highlighting how public-private-philanthropy partnerships are transforming energy systems, driving jobs, and promoting sustainable growth across emerging economies. Globally, the Alliance has awarded USD 503 million in catalytic funding, unlocking USD 7.8 billion for 137 projects across over 30 countries.

In India, the Alliance has backed 26 renewable energy projects, including South Asia’s first commercial standalone utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Kilokri Substation, New Delhi, providing reliable power to over 100,000 consumers in just 20 months. It has also supported solarization initiatives under PM-KUSUM in Rajasthan, adding 183 MW of solar capacity and 12,700 solarised pumps, surpassing expected trends to achieve a 1 GW milestone.

Beyond infrastructure, GEAPP is driving decentralized renewable energy (DRE) solutions, such as the Decentralized Energy for Women’s Economic Employment (DEWEE) program in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at enhancing productivity and income for 10,000 women-led enterprises. Partnerships with NITI Aayog and state governments have enabled scalable energy transition roadmaps, mobilising investments and tendering 16 GW of new renewable projects in Maharashtra.

“The findings prove that public, private, and philanthropic collaboration can drive systemic change, delivering sustainable energy solutions that scale globally,” said Woochong Um, CEO, GEAPP.

Ashish Khanna, Director General, International Solar Alliance, added, “Clean energy is now about transforming lives, livelihoods, and futures. The Alliance’s catalytic support is strengthening capacity building, accelerating solar deployment, and driving inclusive growth.”

Looking ahead, GEAPP will continue supporting India’s renewable targets through programs like the Digital Utilities for Energy Transition (DUET), which maps nearly 5 million distribution assets, enabling better renewable integration and improved grid resilience. Through these initiatives, the Alliance aims to enhance energy reliability for 300 million people, develop 10 GW of distributed renewable energy, build 10 GW of new generation, and establish 5 GW of BESS capacity.
