An international consortium led by Nexus Core Systems has announced plans to establish a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Morocco, powered entirely by renewable energy.

The project, backed by multiple global partners, is expected to source up to 500 MW of clean energy from the Moroccan arm of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA).

The AI hub, set to be developed in phases, will feature over 40 MW of advanced AI accelerators in its initial stage, slated for launch in the first quarter of 2026. These accelerators are designed for high-performance model training at scale, catering to growing demand for AI compute infrastructure.

The consortium includes key players such as Lloyds Capital, Naver Cloud, Maroc Telecom, and US.-based chipmaker Nvidia. Naver Cloud, in collaboration with Nexus Core Systems and Lloyds Capital, will deploy a hyperscale cloud platform to offer AI computing services to enterprise and government clients across the region.

The data centres will utilise modular infrastructure technology to allow scalable deployment while integrating Naver’s proprietary AI and cloud architecture. Maroc Telecom will serve as the local go-to-market partner, overseeing distribution and national rollout. The telecom operator will offer a white-labelled platform powered by Nexus and Naver’s technologies to support Morocco’s digital transformation and AI adoption goals.

The initiative is seen as a strategic milestone for Morocco’s digital and energy future, aligning with the country’s ambitions to become a regional leader in both green energy and advanced technology.
