GK Energy, a solar pump EPC company in India, has announced its strategic expansion into the Retail Solar Rooftop System (RTS) EPC segment, marking its transition from a product-focused solar pump installer to an integrated solar EPC enterprise. Known for executing large-scale solar pump projects under government and private programmes, the company’s move into rooftop solar reflects its diversification strategy aimed at building a scalable, multi-segment solar infrastructure business.
The timing of this expansion aligns with strong policy momentum. The Union Budget recently increased allocation for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana from INR 17,000 crore to INR 22,000 crore, providing a significant boost to rooftop solar adoption across residential, commercial and industrial segments. With favourable regulations, rising electricity tariffs and increasing sustainability awareness, GK Energy sees strong demand potential in the rooftop market.
GK Energy brings a substantial installed customer base and proven execution track record to this segment. With lakhs of systems already operational across regions, the company benefits from strong grassroots brand recall, lower customer acquisition costs and natural cross-selling opportunities. Its national-scale EPC credibility is further supported by independent industry assessments indicating an 8–9 percent national market share and 15–18 percent state-level share in its core solar pump EPC domain by volume. This demonstrates its ability to mobilise manpower, logistics and supply chains at scale—capabilities that can be replicated in rooftop solar projects.
Technically, the transition into rooftop solar is a natural progression. Around 85–95 percent of system engineering principles, components and installation practices remain similar between solar pump systems and rooftop systems. Core components such as solar modules, mounting structures, cabling, protections and electrical design frameworks remain largely unchanged. The primary difference lies in shifting from ground-mounted installations to rooftop structures, replacing pump controllers with grid-tied or hybrid inverters and removing pump-motor assemblies. This high technical commonality enables immediate capability transfer without major retraining or operational delays.
The company enters the rooftop segment with significant readiness, including over 1,000 trained technical personnel, more than 15 warehouses, in-house last-mile logistics and deep multi-geography execution experience. Its strong presence across Tier-II and Tier-III cities further positions it to capture growing demand beyond metros, where decentralized solar adoption is accelerating.
Adopting an asset-light expansion strategy, the company plans to leverage existing infrastructure and vendor networks rather than commit heavy capital investments, ensuring better capital efficiency and scalable growth.
