GIZ India has announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Power, Government of Tripura, represented by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) and the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), to accelerate the deployment of distributed renewable energy solutions and strengthen the state's clean energy ecosystem.

The three-year partnership aims to expand the adoption of renewable energy across Tripura by promoting distributed energy systems such as rooftop solar and other decentralised clean energy solutions that generate electricity closer to consumers, improving energy access and grid resilience.

Under the agreement, the partners will work together to strengthen policy and regulatory frameworks, enhance institutional capacities, and support the implementation of key national renewable energy initiatives, including the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The collaboration will also focus on increasing women's participation in the renewable energy sector through skill development and workforce opportunities, while facilitating pilot projects, technical research and knowledge-sharing initiatives to demonstrate emerging clean energy technologies and innovative business models.

The MoU signing was attended by V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, and Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Chief Secretary of the Government of Tripura.

According to GIZ, the collaboration supports the objectives of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) between India and Germany and reflects the shared commitment of both countries to advancing locally driven, inclusive and sustainable energy transition initiatives.
