Genesis, H2GO Power, Fichtner Join Dogger Bank D Green Hydrogen Project

The potential fourth phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm project is exploring the feasibility and optimization of a large-scale green hydrogen development option on the site.

Project partners SSE Renewables and Equinor have taken a significant step toward large-scale green hydrogen production with the awarding of contracts to Genesis, H2GO Power, and Fichtner. This collaborative effort aims to support the production of green hydrogen from the 2 GW Dogger Bank D off the coast of England.

The potential fourth phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm project is exploring the feasibility and optimization of a large-scale green hydrogen development option on the site.

The project, capable of generating up to around 2 GW of renewable power, includes plans for a green hydrogen facility—one of the UK’s largest if developed. Subject to further technical studies, the facility could contribute to the UK government’s electrolytic hydrogen ambitions of 5 GW by 2030, provided there is supportive government policy and supply chain alignment.

Genesis, with over 30 years of experience in the energy sector, will provide a technology-agnostic concept and engineering design study to optimize the potential green hydrogen production facility.

H2GO Power and Fichtner Consulting Engineers will contribute to value chain optimization for the potential green hydrogen offtake option, using AI machine learning and robust modeling to assess variables like wind farm sizing, electrolysis capacity, transport and storage capacity, water availability, and offtake optionality.

Dogger Bank D project manager Rob Cussons stated, "The hydrogen opportunity for Dogger Bank D demands leading technical specialists to support and shape this ambitious project," expressing excitement about working with the appointed engineering consultants.

Fichtner Principal Engineer and Project Director Mark Shatwell expressed pleasure in being appointed for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm project and highlighted the role of their Fichtner H2-Optimizer in providing answers to optimize the green hydrogen concept.
