GE Vernova has expanded its footprint in India’s wind energy market with the launch of its new 3.8 MW–154m onshore wind turbine, securing a 100 MW order from Powerica Ltd., obtaining Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) certification, and advancing manufacturing expansion at its Pune facility.
The company will supply 28 units of the newly launched turbine for Powerica’s 100 MW Botad Wind Farm project in Gujarat. The project marks the first deployment of the 3.8 MW–154m turbine in India and includes turbine supply and installation. Deliveries are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The project was awarded to Powerica after it secured a power purchase agreement through a competitive auction conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL). The latest order further strengthens the partnership between the two companies, which have previously collaborated on four wind farm projects.
In another development, GE Vernova has been included in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), a mandatory requirement for participating in India’s wind energy market.
The turbines for the Gujarat project will be manufactured at the company’s Pune facility, which is being expanded to support annual production capacity of up to 1,500 MW. The move is expected to boost local manufacturing content and improve supply chain efficiency.
According to the company, the 3.8 MW–154m turbine has been designed specifically for Indian wind conditions and incorporates features such as a 30-year design life, advanced lightning protection systems, digital blade certification technology and installation capabilities aimed at reducing project execution time and costs.
Commenting on the development, Deepak Maloo, General Manager, Onshore Wind Business, India, GE Vernova, said that the company is pleased to partner with Powerica once again and introduce its latest turbine platform to the Indian market. He added that the turbine is designed to deliver efficiency, reliability and strong performance, while ALMM certification and local manufacturing capabilities position the company to support India’s renewable energy goals.
Pradeep Gupta, Whole Time Director, Powerica Ltd., said that the project marks the fourth collaboration between the two companies in Gujarat and will strengthen Powerica’s independent power producer portfolio. He noted that the introduction of the new turbine platform adds significance to the partnership and supports the company’s commitment to renewable energy development.
India has set a target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030, including 100 GW from wind power. GE Vernova said that its installed wind capacity in India surpassed 5 GW in 2025, underscoring its growing contribution to the country’s renewable energy transition.
The company’s Indian operations include a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Pune, a technology centre in Bengaluru and a blade manufacturing plant in Vadodara.
