GCC Secretary General Jasem Al-Budaiwi reiterated the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) commitment to renewable energy, carbon neutrality, and environmental conservation goals at the two-day 'Forum on Enhancing the Future of Energy Towards Zero Neutrality Targets,' which is being held on October 27–28 in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.

Al-Budaiwi emphasised the GCC’s dedication to zero neutrality and climate change, underscoring the growing focus on sustainable energy and climate resilience across the Gulf nations.

In his remarks, Al-Budaiwi outlined ongoing collaborative efforts among GCC members to advance renewable energy innovation, develop clean energy projects, and strengthen supply chains and human capital to achieve shared environmental targets. He further highlighted the need for investment in renewable energy initiatives, smart grid development, and energy efficiency improvements, along with increased international cooperation to address climate challenges.

He expressed pride in the GCC member states’ significant strides towards environmental conservation and carbon neutrality. He highlighted the UAE’s energy strategy, targeting 44 percent clean energy sources and net-zero emissions by 2050, and Bahrain’s renewable energy strategy, aiming for 20 percent renewables by 2035 and carbon neutrality by 2060.

Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 aims for 50 percent renewable electricity production by 2030, with net-zero targets by 2060. Oman’s Vision 2040 seeks a 30 percent renewable energy share in electricity by 2030 and 39 percent by 2040, with a carbon-neutral target by 2050. Qatar’s renewable energy strategy aims for 18 percent by 2030, and Kuwait’s Vision 2035 targets 15 percent renewable electricity by 2035, with carbon neutrality by 2050.

The forum, he noted, fosters a platform for GCC countries to exchange insights and ideas, paving the way for informed decision-making to confront climate issues. Al-Budaiwi emphasised the Gulf nations' readiness and resources to meet their sustainable energy objectives.
