GameChange Solar, a firm specialising in solar tracker and racking systems, has announced a major contract with Chinese engineering firm CEEC-ZTPC to supply its Genius Tracker 1P Single Row system for the second phase of the Abydos Solar PV project in Egypt.
The agreement covers a 1.25 GW tracker system for the Abydos-II plant, which will include a 1 GWac solar photovoltaic (PV) installation paired with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
The project, being developed by UAE-based AMEA Power and constructed by CEEC-ZTPC, is among the largest solar-plus-storage ventures in Africa. Once operational, it is expected to generate approximately 3,000 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power over 500,000 homes, and offset over one million tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
Speaking on the partnership, Vikas Bansal, President, International at GameChange Solar, said, “We’re honored to continue our partnership with CEEC-ZTPC and support AMEA Power in delivering another transformative energy project. Following the successful commissioning of Abydos I, this new order reflects the trust we've built through reliable execution and strong collaboration.”
Abydos-II will span 20 square kilometers in Egypt’s Aswan Governorate and is scheduled for commissioning by May 2026. The project is a key component of Egypt’s national strategy to reach 42 percent renewable energy generation by 2030.
With this latest deal, GameChange Solar’s total installed and under-delivery capacity in Egypt reaches nearly 3 GW, cementing its position as one of the largest solar tracker suppliers in the MENA region.
