GAIL to Develop 600 MW Solar Project with 550 MWh BESS in Uttar Pradesh
GAIL (India) has announced its plan to invest INR 3,294.86 crore to develop a 600 MW solar project with a 550 MWh co-located battery energy storage system in Uttar Pradesh.

GAIL (India) has announced that the company will be investing INR 3,294.86 crore in setting up a greenfield 600 MW solar project with a 550 MWh co-located battery energy storage system (BESS) in Uttar Pradesh.
The project will be financed using a mix of debt and equity and is proposed to be completed within 15 months from the award of the EPC contract, the company stated in a regulatory filing.
Last month, GAIL (India) announced that the company will invest about INR 1,736.25 crore to set up a 178.2 MW greenfield wind power project in Maharashtra, as part of its strategy to expand renewable energy capacity and support long-term business growth.
The company currently operates 117.95 MW of renewable energy capacity, which is running at full utilisation, and the proposed wind project is expected to significantly strengthen its clean energy portfolio. It also has about 29 MW of solar capacity, which the company is utilising fully, it said.
GAIL has set a target of achieving Net Zero through reduction in Scope-1 and Scope-2 emissions by 2035 and Scope-3 emissions by 2040. It plans to increase its renewable energy capacity up to 3.4 GW by 2035 to achieve the Net Zero targets.
