Hiring in India’s EV and EV Infrastructure sector is shifting decisively from expansion to execution, with the latest TeamLease Employment Outlook Report showing a Net Employment Change of +6.4 percent in HY2, signalling strong but disciplined momentum.
Despite a marginal dip from +7.1 percent in HY1, employers continue to push hiring driven by the sector’s maturity, reliability demands, and operational readiness. The findings are based on a survey of 1,251 employers across 23 industries and 20 cities conducted between June and August 2025.
The report highlights that 66 percent of employers plan workforce expansion, while 25 percent expect stable headcount and 9 percent foresee reductions. Companies are prioritising ROI-based hiring as they move away from rapid build-outs toward efficiency, profitability, and service-linked performance. The industry’s 12-month EV sales run rate of nearly 2 million units underscores steady consumer demand supported by stronger post-sales infrastructure.
With financing models, price trends, and governance norms evolving, compliance and reliability have become core priorities. Employers are strengthening safety standards, certification processes, and quality control frameworks as the sector prepares for large-scale operations and long-term sustainability.
Selective hiring is visible, especially among pilot vendors and non-standard SKUs, accounting for the 9% reduction in certain employer segments. But overall, hiring remains stable and delivery-driven, with companies seeking efficiency-focused, outcome-based roles rather than sheer headcount expansion. Quality talent capable of ensuring consistent service and operational reliability across the EV value chain is now the top priority.
Demand is strongest across engineering (61 percent), sales and marketing (57 percent), and IT technology (50 percent) roles. Bengaluru (24 percent), Delhi (21 percent), and Chennai (18 percent) continue to be the main hiring hubs. Skills in highest demand include battery and BMS expertise, compliance, cell and pack testing, uptime management, and field technicians for installation and maintenance.
Commenting on the findings, Balasubramanian A, Senior Vice President, TeamLease Services, said that the sector’s shift toward execution is being driven by specialised talent requirements and a growing focus on operational reliability, service excellence, and sustained performance.
