Epsilon Advanced Materials (EAM) has unveiled its first edition of the Sustainability Report for 2023-24.

This report was unveiled in the presence of Srikant Nagulapalli, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India at Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) India’s Outlook on Clean Energy Storage: A Roadmap to Net Zero summit in Delhi.

This report shows EAM’s commitment towards Environment, Sustainability & Governance initiatives, including meeting 100 percent of its energy needs through a waste heat recovery power plant and achieving Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) by treating and reusing 100 percent of its wastewater on-site. EAM’s graphite anode materials Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) shows encouraging results towards manufacturing environmentally sustainable battery materials for Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS).

The study compared the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of EAM’s graphite anodes to those produced in China, revealing that Epsilon’s production processes generate significantly lower emissions up to 78 percent, contributing to global carbon reduction efforts. The LCA covered every stage of EAM’s production cycle, from raw material extraction to the final product, showcasing optimizations for superior environmental performance.

The report also highlights the company's progress in digital transformation, with a current digital adoption rate of 69% with target for 100 percent digitalization by 2025 to enhance transparency, operational efficiency, financial consolidation, treasury management, and sustainability tracking.

In addition to its environmental achievements, EAM’s Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) initiatives have positively impacted over 300,000 lives across 49 villages in Vijayanagar, Karnataka.

EAM has contributed towards the betterment of health, education, gender equality, and infrastructure development in these communities, while also providing 12 lakh liters of drinking water to villages in Karnataka during times of scarcity.

Vikram Handa, Managing Director, Epsilon Group said, “Epsilon Advanced Materials was founded with the vision to enable the global EV battery supply chain, through sustainable products towards a clean energy transition. We have embedded sustainable principles across every aspect of our operations from raw material sourcing to waste minimization, product innovation to circularity, ensuring that our battery materials actively contribute to the decarbonization of e-mobility and energy storage.”

Sunit Kapur, Chief Executive Officer, Epsilon Advanced Materials, said, “Our inaugural Sustainability Report ‘Electrifying the Road to a Greener Tomorrow’ clearly shows our efforts to deliver high-performance battery materials while minimizing environmental impact. As India’s first fully integrated producer of graphite anode materials, we are shaping a cleaner and greener future through circularity, innovation, and responsible practices, ensuring transparency and accountability."
