Express Offshore Solutions (EOS), an arm of Miclyn Express Offshore (MEO), together with its Taiwanese partner Hung Hua Construction Co. Ltd (HHC), have completed the transportation of 84 pin piles for their Client on the Taiwan Power Company Offshore Windfarm Phase 1 Project.
The scope of work included the transportation to the offshore windfarm site in Taiwan of 80 pin piles from South Korean fabrication yard, and 4 pin piles from steel fabricator Ming Rong Yuan Business Co., Ltd in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Moreover, the contract scope also included design and fabrication of grillage, integrated lifting tools, and other barge modifications required for the pin pile transportation.
The majority of these works were carried out in Batam, Indonesia, prior to the mobilisation of spreads; and supervised by the project team ensuring compliance with offshore wind standards.
Furthermore, the pin piles were transported on a total of 7 voyages by 3 tug and barge combinations, including EOS’ own 400 x 120 ft barges, the EOS 4001 and EOS 4002, as well as HHC’s 330 ft barge, the DF Buffalo.
Also, the barges were towed by EOS’ 105T BP AHT Magellan 1, along with two other 120t BP AHTs operating under the project team, from South Korea to Taiwan. HHC’s AHTs, the Orient No. 8 was on site to assist in Taiwanese waters.
Especially during these challenging times, all shore labour and crew were strictly following COVID guidelines. The vessels’ crew were kept isolated from shore staff to eliminate all risk of possible infections with COVID-19. This required extra focus, and clear and concise communication between ship and shore personnel during operations.
Despite the challenges this has presented, especially in terms of travel restrictions, the project personnel were on the ground at all locations and the project benefitted from the strong support and network of HHC in Taiwan.
Singapore-headquartered MEO is a ship owner with a combined fleet of 140 offshore support vessels with operations in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. EOS provides project transportation and engineering services for the oil and gas, renewables, mining and logistics industries.
On the other hand, HHC is one of the largest marine construction companies in Taiwan with 40 years of expertise and experience in dredging and offshore maritime construction and has been involved in numerous offshore wind farm projects in Taiwan.
