Enrolment for DONG Energy Solar Challenge 2014 closed

The University of Bahrain is the last contestant to enroll the DONG Energy Solar Challenge (DSC2014). Now the enrolment of DSC2014 is completed. In December the Bahraini team already indicated that they would like to join the race, however a couple steps had to be taken. With high exception the university was granted a delay to enter the race. With the participation of the oil state, up to fifteen foreigner teams will appear at the start of the fifth edition of the Solar boat race. The race starts on 28 June in Blauwestad and finishes on 5 July in Leeuwarden.

The teams can participate in various classes at the DSC2014. Bahrain competes at the Challenge A. This class sails with standard solar panels supplied by sponsor The Sun Factory and has the most participants; 24 teams take part in this class. In the Challenge B as well in the Top class six teams will compete. The new V20 standard class has got three contestants. Besides the participants from Bahrain, the DSC2014 also welcomes teams from Brazil, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, China, Finland, Indonesia and America.       

In December 2013 Andries van Weperen, advisor of the DONG Energy Solar Challenge and Gerard van der Schaar of Private Energy Solar Boat Team already headed off to Bahrain. During their visit the University of Barhrain announced they would like to join the DONG Energy Solar Challenge 2014. They have taken over the 2012 solar boat of the Cree Yacht Team of Bartosz Puchowski from Poland and improved it. It is the first time a team from this region participates. Apparently there is a future for solar power, also in Bahrain.
