Engie has announced that its total renewable energy capacity in India has now surpassed 1,500 megawatt (MW) following a sequence of successes.
The company was recently presented a 200 MW onshore wind project in Gujarat by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) with which it will sign a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
“This success follows an earlier award to the Group by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd, for a 280 MW solar photovoltaic project in Gujarat as part of the Raghanesda solar park, presently under development. Under the scope of the project, ENGIE will also sign a 25-year PPA with GUVNL, the state power distribution company,” the firm said in a declaration.
ENGIE had finalized commissioning of 80 per cent of the 338-MW Kadapa solar PV project located in Andhra Pradesh a week ahead of schedule. This was followed by commercial operation in early June. “These successes demonstrate ENGIE’s capability to accelerate the development of its renewable energy portfolio and meet the ambitious target of adding 9 GW of additional renewable capacities over the next 3 years,” said Paulo Almirante, executive vice-president and Group COO, ENGIE.
The company has been existing in India for over 40 years and employs about 1,000 people in the country in power generation, engineering and energy services space.
