Engie, a low-carbon energy and services company, has received an award for a large-scale hybrid solar PhotoVoltaic (PV) project integrated with long-duration energy storage in India through a competitive bidding process conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project comprises 200 MW of solar capacity coupled with a 100 MW / 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
This is Engie’s first hybrid solar-plus-storage project in India and builds on its growing clean energy footprint, which includes nearly 2 GW of renewable assets currently in operation or under construction. The award follows the company’s first standalone battery energy storage project secured in November, further reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to India’s energy transition and grid resilience.
The integrated project is designed to deliver firm, reliable and affordable renewable power by combining large-scale solar generation with six hours of energy storage. It will play a key role in supporting India’s ambition to scale renewable capacity while maintaining grid stability and enabling 24/7 clean energy availability.
According to the entity, the project aligns with the country’s broader goals of building a resilient, future-ready power system as renewable penetration accelerates. It will now advance the project into detailed engineering, procurement, regulatory approvals and construction, working closely with technology partners, suppliers and authorities to ensure timely execution.
