EnerGrid’s Active Pipeline of Infra Projects Spans INR 6,000 Cr, BESS Portfolio at 1,250 MWh: CEO
EnerGrid has expanded its energy storage portfolio to 1,250 MWh with recent BESS tender wins from NVVN and SJVN. It is also executing 4 ISTS projects with a planned capital outlay of INR 3,000 crore, taking its active pipeline of infrastructure projects to INR 6,000 crore, stated the company’s CEO, Satish Talmale.

EnerGrid’s active pipeline spans more than INR 6,000 crore in infrastructure projects, said Satish Talmale, CEO, EnerGrid. He further added that with EnerGrid winning two BESS tenders recently – 125 MW/500 MWh from NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVNN) and 187.5 MW/750 MWh from SJVN – the company’s energy storage portfolio increased by 1,250 MWh.
Additionally, EnerGrid is also supporting its investee BESS projects of a cumulative capacity of approximately 900 MWh, which is being co-funded by IndiGrid, BII (British International Investment), and Norfund, stated Talmale to Energetica India.
The company recently won its second battery energy storage system (BESS) tender by securing 125 MW/500 MWh capacity in NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam’s (NVNN) auction for developing 250 MW/1,000 MWh standalone BESS projects in Uttar Pradesh.
The project will be located at the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPTCL) substation in Garutha, near Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The projects will be eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) support at INR 27 lakh/MWh or 30 percent of the capital cost of the project capacity awarded, whichever is lower.
“We are proud to have emerged successful in NVVN’s BESS tender – the first-of-its-kind in India to be structured on an energy-based model rather than capacity-based, with charging power preferably from renewable sources falling under the developer’s scope. This marks a significant evolution in the way storage projects are conceptualised. Our technical expertise in BESS, combined with synergies from our existing SJVN project, positions us well to execute this successfully. EnerGrid remains deeply committed to accelerating India’s energy transition and advancing the country’s Net Zero goals,” said Talmale, further adding that the project is currently in the early stages and is expected to be commissioned within the stipulated timelines as per the bid.
This is EnerGrid’s second such win in BESS after it emerged as a winner in SJVN’s BESS auction. “Together, these two projects add up to approximately 1,250 MWh of energy storage capacity under the EnerGrid platform,” stated Talmale, further adding that beyond storage, EnerGrid is also executing four ISTS transmission projects with a planned capital outlay of about INR 3,000 crore.
“This integrated approach across BESS and transmission positions EnerGrid as a differentiated platform for India’s evolving energy ecosystem, backed by long-term capital and deep execution capabilities,” asserted Talmale.
