Encore Systems India Pvt. Ltd. (ENIPL) has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with four companies to establish four battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing lines with a cumulative annual capacity of 25 GWh.
The agreements were signed at Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2026, held from October 22–24 at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. The manufacturing plants are scheduled to be set up by the end of 2026.
The company has a pipeline of around 100 GWh in BESS manufacturing projects. Encore Systems provides lithium-ion battery assembly equipment, automation and system integration solutions for energy storage, electric mobility and other new energy applications.
Nikhil Arora, Director, Encore Systems, said that the company is working with technology partners in China, Taiwan and Germany to bring advanced manufacturing technologies to India and develop domestic BESS manufacturing capabilities in line with global quality standards. The company is currently focused on local assembly and aims to begin manufacturing battery cells in India within the next one to two years.
Arora stated that the BESS manufacturing sector is moving beyond basic cell assembly towards application-specific system design, improved component quality and automated production processes. Manufacturers are increasingly designing systems according to their intended applications before finalising the bill of materials and assembly processes. “Encore Systems works with customers to select machinery, design production lines and establish manufacturing processes suited to their technical requirements,” he said.
The company offers turnkey and semi-automated lithium-ion battery assembly solutions covering cell-to-module and module-to-pack processes. Its portfolio includes cylindrical, prismatic and pouch cell assembly systems, battery testing equipment, laboratory setup solutions and automation and system integration services. The solutions can be configured for applications ranging from individual cells to large battery packs.
Encore Systems also provides battery testing solutions designed to meet relevant international standards, including IEC 62133, UN 38.3, UL 1642, ECE R100, UL 2580 and IEC 62619. Its testing portfolio includes equipment for evaluating battery performance under different environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, altitude and vibration.
Ekta Paliwal, Director, Encore Systems, on the role of automation and artificial intelligence (AI), said that BESS production lines are increasingly integrating AI-based manufacturing execution systems (MES) to monitor component quality and control production processes. These systems can assess electrical parameters and component quality to evaluate their potential impact on battery performance and service life. MES-based monitoring can also help track battery performance after deployment and generate early alerts about potential issues, supporting preventive maintenance and quality control.
The planned manufacturing lines will add to the company’s activities in battery assembly automation and system integration as it expands its presence in India’s growing energy storage manufacturing sector.
