Egyptian solar energy and water technology startup NoorNation has raised USD 1.05 million in seed funding from Leena Farms, Catalyst Fund and KBW Ventures to expand solar-powered irrigation and its pay-as-you-go service for farmers.
The funding will support the deployment of five solar power plants with a combined capacity of 1.1 MW across Leena Farms’ agricultural operations in Bahariya Oasis and Minya. Leena Farms, previously a customer of NoorNation, has become an investor and development partner.
NoorNation’s solar irrigation-as-a-service model aims to help small farmers adopt solar-powered pumping without paying installation costs upfront. Farmers pay according to water usage, with payments facilitated through credit top-ups on the My Fawry app. The company also supports the transition from flood irrigation to drip irrigation to improve water-use efficiency.
The startup has completed around 66 projects with a combined capacity of 7 MW across 13 Egyptian governorates, serving more than 5,200 acres, according to the report. It has also delivered projects in the UAE and supplied two solar-powered Lifebox desalination units to hospitals in Tajikistan in cooperation with UNICEF.
