Egypt has secured a USD 391 million investment from an Egyptian Emirati consortium to strengthen its electricity transmission infrastructure and connect renewable energy projects in the Gulf of Suez to the national grid.

The investment, valued at around EGP20 billion, comes as Egypt accelerates the development of large scale wind and solar projects and works to expand its capacity to integrate renewable power into the national electricity system.

The Gulf of Suez has emerged as one of the key renewable energy corridors in Egypt, with significant potential for wind power generation. The region is also attracting investments in large scale clean energy projects as Egypt seeks to increase the contribution of renewables to its electricity mix.

The grid investment is expected to support the transmission of electricity generated by new renewable energy projects to demand centres across the country. Strengthening the transmission network is increasingly important as Egypt brings additional wind and solar capacity online and seeks to avoid grid constraints that could limit renewable power generation.

The project also forms part of Egypt's broader strategy to strengthen its position as a regional clean energy hub. By expanding renewable generation and improving electricity transmission infrastructure, the country aims to support domestic power demand while creating opportunities for electricity exports and wider regional energy cooperation.

The investment highlights the growing importance of grid infrastructure in Egypt's clean energy transition, as the country moves beyond renewable generation capacity and focuses on the transmission systems needed to integrate large volumes of wind and solar power into the national grid.
