Egypt, Algeria Explore Renewable Energy Ties and Grid Development

Ministers discussed boosting investment in renewable energy, grid modernisation, and clean tech manufacturing, with Algeria seeking to collaborate with Egyptian firms to expand and decarbonise its electricity sector.

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with Algeria’s Ambassador to Cairo, Mohamed Sofiane Berrah, to discuss deepening cooperation and exploring investment opportunities in the electricity and renewable energy sectors, as per an official statement.

The two sides discussed the implementation of high-voltage transmission lines, the development of distribution networks, and the construction of transformer stations. The talks also focused on clean energy initiatives, including localising the manufacturing of related equipment and leveraging Egyptian expertise to expand renewable energy, curb the use of fossil fuels, and cut carbon emissions.

The Algerian side expressed interest in engaging Egyptian firms for electricity grid development and explored options to increase Egyptian electrical equipment exports to Algeria.
