Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has announced that it has distributed over one crore LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP). It has taken just seven months for the state to reach the milestone. The success of the programme can be directly attributed to the people of Maharashtra, who have come forward in encouraging numbers to make their homes and in turn state energy efficient.
EESL, a Public Energy Services Company under the administration of Ministry of Power, Government of India (GoI), is implementing DELP in various circles of Maharashtra such as Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Bhiwandi, Thane, Ahmednagar, Vashi, Mumbai, Kalyan, Pune Urban & Rural, Baramati, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Nanded, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Nagpur and Amravati. The programme has led to significant savings to the consumers who are using these bulbs in the state. As of date, the savings achieved are -

Mr .Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL, commented on the achievement saying “People of Maharashtra have realized the need for energy efficiency and are incorporating it as a part of their lifestyle. Maharashtra crossing the one crore milestone is an evidence of this. EESL is committed to the vision of an energy efficient India and will always ensure that the consumers can avail high quality LED bulbs at affordable prices”.
Each LEDbulb, under DELP, helps a consumer save anywhere between Rs. 160 to Rs. 400 every year and has a life expectancy of 25,000 hours, thus making the cost recovery lesser than a year. EESL has been able to slash procurement prices by 75 percent and is able pass this discount benefit to the consumers. In addition, thrust is to bring down 7 watt LED price in the retail market (currently Rs. 250 - 300) so that there is sustainable market for these energy efficient LED bulbs.
LED bulbs distributed under DELP are completely safe and non-hazardous. They emit the lowest UV and IR Radiation amongst all lighting technologies. When compared to CFLs, LEDs do not have mercury and therefore, have no negative impact on environment. EESL also provides free of cost replacement for all LED bulbs, with technical faults, for three years.
