EESL distributes 1 crore LED bulbs in just 13 days, crosses 9 crore mark under UJALA scheme

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All), has announced that it has created a new benchmark by distributing 1 crore LED bulbs in under 13 days. EESL has distributed over 9 crore LED bulbs across the nation with resulting in an estimated daily energy savings of 3.2 crore kWh. The average distribution during this period was about 8,00,000 LEDs per day.

The 9th crore bulb was distributed on the evening of March 31st 2016at 17:52 hours in the presence of the Hon’ble Power Minister. On this occasion, Hon’ble Minister for Power, Coal and Renewable Energy, Sh. PiyushGoyal said:We are climbing new heights every day, the 9th crore is special for us because it reflects the commitment of the organisation, commitment of the government and the significant contribution of the consumers. It is heart-warming to see scores of people come forward and participate in this scheme. I will urge more and more people to join the movement”.

The impact of UJALA has been such thatIndia’s share in the global LED industry has risen from 0.1 percent to 12 percent.  13 Indian states are already part of the movement and EESL plans to roll out the scheme in a few more states in the coming months. UJALA, launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on January 2015, is the largest non-subsidised LED programme in the world. The programme has led to significant savings to the consumers who are using these bulbs. As of date, the savings achieved are -

On reaching the benchmark, MrSaurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL said: “EESL has always followed the government’s stand on accountability and transparency. Through our UJALA dashboard, the citizens can keep track of bulbs distributed in every village, every city and every state. We provide details of our quality control and distribution centres where consumers can pick up their bulbs. This transparent approach of work showcases our commitment to the people of this country and encourages them to come forward and participate, thereby making the scheme highly successful”. 

The energy saved from distribution of 9 crore LEDs can help lighting needs of 23 lakh Indian homes for an entire year.Consumers can visit the UJALA dashboard www.delp.in to locate the closest distribution kiosk to their place. Every person who switches to LED bulbs will help lighting up someone’s home through the energy savings.
