A consortium led by EDF power solutions, Al Khadra Partners and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) has achieved financial close for the 120 MW Jaalan Bani Bu Ali (JBB) Wind Independent Power Project in Oman, marking a major step towards the development of one of the Sultanate’s largest onshore wind farms.

The milestone follows the signing of a 20 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP). The project is located in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, around 440 km from the Port of Duqm.

The JBB wind project will comprise 16 wind turbines, each with a generation capacity of 7.7 MW. Commercial operations are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2027.

Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power more than 13,500 Omani households annually. It is also projected to avoid more than 270,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

The project is expected to support Oman’s broader clean energy transition while contributing to local economic development through job creation, skills development and opportunities for Omani companies during both construction and operational phases.

The JBB project is aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the Sultanate’s objective of increasing renewable energy’s contribution to the national electricity mix to at least 30 percent by 2030. It also supports Oman’s longer term Net Zero 2050 ambitions.

Luc Koechlin, CEO Middle East of EDF power solutions, said the financial close represents a major milestone for the project partners and demonstrates lenders’ confidence in the project and Oman’s renewable energy market.

The project is EDF power solutions’ first wind transaction in Oman and strengthens the company’s presence in the Sultanate’s energy transition. The company said its partnership with Al Khadra Partners and OQAE will support the development of competitive and low carbon energy solutions in line with Oman Vision 2040 and the country’s decarbonisation objectives.

Sheikha Hind Bahwan, Chairperson of Al Khadra Partners, said the financial close demonstrates the strength of the partnership and its commitment to Oman’s clean energy transition. She added that the project will contribute to long term economic, environmental and social value for the Sultanate and its communities.

Al Khadra Partners is part of the Hind Bahwan Group, which is developing more than 3 GW of power projects across Oman.

Salim Said Al Kamyani, CEO of OQ Alternative Energy, said the financial close demonstrates the progress Oman is making in translating its renewable energy ambitions into projects.

According to OQAE, the JBB project represents more than 120 MW of new renewable capacity and forms part of the wider transformation of Oman’s energy system. The project is also expected to strengthen energy security, diversify the country’s electricity mix and support sustainable economic growth.

The development is expected to create opportunities for local capability building, strengthen Omani supply chains and generate In Country Value during the project’s construction and operational phases.

OQ Alternative Energy, EDF power solutions and Al Khadra Partners said they will continue working together to advance the project and support Oman’s renewable energy and decarbonisation objectives under Oman Vision 2040 and Net Zero 2050.
