EcoFuel Systems (India) Ltd., a leader in sustainable fuel solutions, has secured INR 66 crore order from the Tamil Nadu government to convert 850 diesel buses to CNG, marking a major milestone in the state’s clean mobility initiative. The project, to be completed over 12 months across multiple state transport depots, is expected to cut 5.7 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, positioning Tamil Nadu as a frontrunner in low-emission public transport.
With this order, EcoFuel’s total converted fleet in India will surpass 1,500 buses, further consolidating its leadership in the diesel-to-CNG retrofit segment. The company will execute the conversions using certified CNG kits designed for seamless integration, high safety standards, and optimal fuel efficiency, leveraging more than two decades of expertise in clean fuel solutions.
“This is a proud moment for EcoFuel Systems. Tamil Nadu’s decision to convert diesel buses to CNG reflects the state’s progressive approach to clean mobility. Our retrofit technology not only reduces the carbon footprint but also ensures economic viability for transport corporations,” said Virendra Vora, Founder and Chairman of EcoFuel Systems.
The initiative aligns with India’s National Green Mobility Mission, which aims to transition public transport fleets to low-emission alternatives by 2030. CNG retrofits offer a cost-effective and scalable pathway for decarbonising transport without the high upfront investments required for electric buses.
As per the firm, it has a strong track record in India, having sold 1.3 million LOVATO kits and installed over 5 lakh sequential kits. With full compliance with European standards and BS-VI certifications, and a nationwide after-sales service network.
The company has executed significant projects across public and private sectors, including the conversion of over 8,000 Ola cabs, installation of more than 5,300 kits for Tata Motors through dealerships, and 1,500 kits for Meru Cabs in Mumbai and Delhi. It has also converted over 100 heavy commercial diesel vehicles for Reliance Industries and is currently executing a retrofit order for MSRTC in Mumbai. Additionally, EcoFuel successfully converted diesel boats to CNG in Varanasi under the Prime Minister’s Ganga Cleanliness Project.
With this Tamil Nadu order, EcoFuel reinforces its role as a key enabler of India’s clean transport goals, offering proven technology and scalable solutions for both public and private transport operators, while making public transport greener, cleaner, and more sustainable.
