DSM Programme of Tata Power, Mumbai gets ‘Innovative Energy Saving Service’ award
Tata Power is one of the earliest utilities in India to have embraced DSM programs in a widespread manner

Tata Power's Demand Side Management (DSM) Programme in Mumbai, has been awarded with the ‘Innovative Energy Saving Service’ at the 15th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2014. Mr. K. Pradeep Chandra, Special Chief Secretary to Government of Telangana and Commissioner for Industrial Promotion, Industries and Commerce Department, presented the award to Tata Power.
Tata Power’s DSM Cell submitted its application for the 15th edition of the Awards under the category of ‘Innovative Energy Saving Service’. Post being shortlisted for the category, Tata Power set-up a stall at the event showcasing its numerous activities to the participating dignitaries. The DSM team also delivered a presentation at the event which highlighted the various innovative attributes of its DSM service.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director and CEO – Tata Power said, “We are very happy to be recognised and appreciated for our innovative energy conservation initiative. The Award serves as a great motivation to keep up the good work and keep exceeding our stakeholders’ expectations. We are extremely thankful for this acknowledgement, and I’d like to extend my hearty appreciation to the entire Tata Power DSM team.”
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) had set up National Award for Excellence in Energy Management with the objective of recognising ‘excellence’ in energy management and provide platform for organisations that have made significant contribution in energy efficiency to showcase their achievement.
DSM Programs are gaining wide spread momentum, more so due to its tremendous potential to save energy costs to the consumer. DSM programs, typically Demand Response is an integral part of SMART Grid solutions and thus is being adopted across the world over. Tata Power is one of the earliest utilities in India to have embraced DSM programs in a widespread manner. In addition to the programs discussed above, Tata Power is in the process of rolling out several new initiatives for the benefit of its customers. Some of these key initiatives being Promotion of Green Buildings, introducing the concept of Negawatt Power plant and carrying out SMART Grid projects.
