DPIIT Notifies New Quality Control Orders for Solar DC Cables

Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable (Quality Control) Order, 2023 comprises Electric Cable for Photovoltaic Systems which are majorly utilised for the interconnection of the multiple elements of solar photovoltaic systems like solar panel arrays.

Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry has notified two more new Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for ‘Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable’ and ‘Cast Iron Products’, which will levy from six months from the date of notification.

Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable (Quality Control) Order, 2023 comprises Electric Cable for Photovoltaic Systems which are majorly utilised for the interconnection of the multiple elements of solar photovoltaic systems like solar panel arrays.

These cables can be deployed indoors and outdoors for flexible and fixed installations with high mechanical strength in extreme weather conditions.

It is deployed in Nuclear power plants, Airports, Metro Rails, Refineries, High-rise buildings, Shopping malls and cinema theatres, and many more.

Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023 contains standards in relation to various cast iron items like manhole covers, Cast iron pipe, Malleable iron fittings, and Grey iron castings.

The objective of notification is the QCOs is to upgrade the quality of indigeneously manufactured products, reduce the imports of sub-standard products into India, safeguard unfair trade practices, and protect human, animal, or plant health and safety of the environment.

DPIIT in constant consultation with Bureau of Indian Standards (
BIS) and stakeholders has been looking for main products which need execution of QCO. This has led to the introduction of the development of 60 new QCOs including 318 product standards.
