The Delhi government has reiterated its commitment to transforming the national capital into a clean, green and energy-efficient city by accelerating the adoption of renewable energy, with a strong focus on rooftop solar installations.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the announcement while inaugurating a 500-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant at the Air Force and Naval Officers Enclave in Dwarka Sector-7. The project forms part of the government's broader strategy to expand clean energy infrastructure, reduce dependence on conventional power sources and improve environmental sustainability across the city.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said solar energy is playing a key role in India's journey towards energy self-reliance and that Delhi is committed to contributing to the national clean energy transition. She said the government is encouraging households to install rooftop solar systems by offering combined financial assistance of more than INR 1 lakh under the Central government's PM Surya Ghar scheme and the Delhi government's support programmes.
The chief minister said wider adoption of rooftop solar is expected to lower electricity bills for consumers while reducing carbon emissions and strengthening Delhi's renewable energy capacity. She added that expanding clean energy infrastructure remains a priority as the government works towards making the capital more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable.
The announcement comes as the Delhi government advances a series of clean mobility and renewable energy initiatives, including the proposed Delhi EV Policy 2026, aimed at accelerating the transition to electric vehicles and reducing air pollution in the capital.
