In a groundbreaking move to combat pollution and promote sustainable urban mobility, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme 2023.
This ambitious initiative mandates a phased transition to electric vehicles (EVs) for all commercial vehicle fleets of aggregators, delivery service providers, and e-commerce entities operating in the city. The announcement positions Delhi as a pioneer in India and among the few cities globally to enforce a time-bound shift to zero-emission EVs.
"The scheme marks a significant milestone in Delhi's fight against pollution," stated Chief Minister Kejriwal. "With this, Delhi has become the first state/UT in India to mandate a time-bound transition of commercial vehicle fleets to zero-emission electric vehicles."
The scheme also opens the door for electric bike taxi services in Delhi, aiming to improve transport services while prioritizing green and sustainable mobility.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot praised the visionary leadership behind this initiative, emphasizing its potential to enhance air quality and the well-being of Delhi's citizens.
Under the scheme, all commercial vehicle fleets, including bike taxis, must transition to electric mobility by 2030. Stringent guidelines have been set for service quality, cleanliness, driver behavior, and public safety, fostering a new era of transportation services in the capital.
The scheme applies to aggregators, delivery service providers, and e-commerce entities operating within Delhi and will drive the transformation towards eco-friendly transportation in the city.
