Cummins India to Procure Renewable Energy from CleanMax in Maharashtra

Cummins India has announced it will procure renewable power from CleanMax’s solar–wind hybrid projects in Maharashtra under a group captive model, by acquiring an 8.78 percent stake in the project SPV for INR 2.70 crore. The investment will be made along with two other Cummins Group entities in India picking up at least 26 percent stake in total.

Cummins India has announced that company will be procuring renewable power from Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions’ (CleanMax) upcoming solar-wind hybrid power plants in Maharashtra under the group captive model.

The company’s Board of Directors have approved the proposal to acquire equity shares of Clean Max Yellowstone, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), by investing an amount up to INR 2.70 crore aggregating to at least 8.78 percent of the equity share, in one or more tranches, the company said in a regulatory filing.

It further added that the said investment shall be made along-with other two Cummins group entities in India under Group Captive Model, together holding at least 26 percent of equity share capital of the SPV to comply with regulatory requirement for group captive power plants.

Cummins India and CleanMax have also signed the Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) to this effect.

CleanMax will be setting up offsite captive solar/wind/hybrid power generating plant(s) in Maharashtra and supply captive solar/wind/hybrid power from these plants, it said.

As per the company’s Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report, for Cummins India, the percentage of energy consumed through renewable sources with respect to the total energy consumed stood at 10.57 percent in FY 2024-25.

As per the company’s 2024-25 Sustainability Progress Report, Cummins is continuing to expand its solar capacity, with on-site solar arrays at 66 locations globally. Renewable energy projects completed in 2024 include 21 on-site solar projects, contributing to the company’s on-site solar arrays at 66 locations globally. “This is in addition to Cummins’ support for the expansion of the Meadow Lake Wind Farm in northwest Indiana under a 15-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA). The global impact of renewable energy generation and purchases on Cummins’ emission rate was 136,724 metric tons of CO2e in 2024,” it said.

Last Month, BASF India partnered with CleanMax to procure power from its 12.21 MW wind-solar captive hybrid power projects in Gujarat. CleanMax also signed a PPA with Equinix to supply power from a 26.4 MWp solar plant under a group captive arrangement.
