CPDL Signs PPA with SECI for 50 MW Solar and Battery Storage Power
Chandigarh Power Distribution Ltd. has signed a 25-year PPA with Solar Energy Corporation of India to procure 50 MW of solar power with battery energy storage, marking Chandigarh’s first solar power supply through the ISTS network.

The agreement will help Chandigarh get more clean and reliable power, delivering around 135 million units (MUs) of electricity annually, while reducing over 96 tons of CO2 emissions each year, said a CPDL official.
Under the arrangement, solar power will primarily help meet Chandigarh’s electricity demand during the daytime, while the battery storage system will store electricity and supply it during the night and other periods when solar power is not available. This will help CPDL better manage the city’s changing electricity demand.
The agreement has been signed for 25 years under SECI’s ISTS (Inter-State Transmission System) – Tranche XX. ISTS enables electricity generated in one part of the country to be supplied to another part through the national power transmission network.
With this agreement, Chandigarh will receive its first solar power connected to the Inter-State Transmission System, marking an important step towards increasing the use of renewable energy in the city, stated CPDL.
