Coal India Floats Tender for 187.50 MW/750 MWh BESS Project in Telangana

Coal India has invited bids for the EPC development of a 187.50 MW/750 MWh Battery Energy Storage System project at Choutuppal substation in Telangana, including 15 years of O&M. Bid submission ends on August 19, 2026.

Coal India has floated a tender for the development of a 187.50 MW/750 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) through complete EPC mode at Choutuppal SS in Telangana.
 
The scope of work includes design, engineering, supply, manufacturing, testing at manufacturer’s works, multi-level inspections, packing and forwarding, unloading, storage at site, associated civil works, services, obtaining permits, licenses, installations and incidentals, and insurance.
 
Bidders will also be responsible for the development of 220 kV switchyard evacuation bay(s) (including metering) as per system requirement at the respective TGTRANSCO substation and establishment of evacuation arrangement through 220 kV TMDC transmission Line from the BESS up to the Point of Interconnection.
 
The bidders must also provide 15 years of comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M).
 
The bidders need to pay INR 50 lakh as an earnest money deposit (EMD).
 
The last date for submission of bids is August 19, 2026. The techno-commercial bids will be opened on August 20, 2026.
 
Bidders can qualify under any one of three technical eligibility routes. Under Route I, bidders must have manufactured and supplied at least 80 MWh of grid-integrated batteries, including a 20 MWh system delivered under a single order at one location and operational for at least six months.
 
Under Route II, bidders must have experience as an integrator, supplier, aggregator, EPC contractor, or developer of 80 MWh of commissioned grid-interactive BESS, with at least 20 MWh at a single location operational for six months.
 
Under Route III, bidders must have executed a 75 MWac grid-connected solar or wind project at a single location under a single order within the last seven years, with the project operational for at least six months before the bid submission deadline.
 
As for financial eligibility, the bidder must have an average annual financial turnover of at least INR 315.309 crore during the last three financial years. The bidder must also have a minimum net worth of INR 157.655 crore at the end of the last financial year.
