Coal India Commissions 200 MW at Khavda Solar Project, Total Solar Capacity Reaches 557 MW

Coal India has commissioned 200 MW of its 300 MW solar power project at Khavda, Gujarat, taking its total installed solar capacity to 557 MW.

Coal India has announced the commissioning of 200 MW capacity at its 300 MW solar power project at Khavda, Gujarat.
 
The company has received the commissioning certificate dated July 15, 2026, from Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), the company stated in a regulatory filing.
 
Coal India has a 25-year offtake agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) for this project.
 
With this commissioning, Coal India’s total installed solar capacity has increased to 557 MW. The company has set a target of achieving 9.5 GW of renewable energy capacity by FY 2029-30.
 
Earlier this month, Coal India signed a joint venture agreement with U.P. Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam to develop solar, wind, pumped storage and other renewable energy projects in Uttar Pradesh.
 
Recently, Coal India secured a letter of award to develop two 300 MW solar power projects, totalling 600 MW, at the Jalaun Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh from SJVN.
 
In May 2025, Coal India signed an MoU with UPRVUNL to set up a 500 MW solar power project in Uttar Pradesh.
 
The company has also forayed into the battery energy storage systems (BESS) segment. Last month, Coal India received a letter of award from GRIDCO, Odisha, for setting up four BESS projects with a cumulative capacity of 80 MW/320 MWh across two clusters in Odisha, at an estimated cost of INR 400 crore.
 
In March 2026, Coal India secured an 187.5 MW/750 MWh BESS project from Telangana Power Generation Corporation at a tariff of INR 3.14 lakh/MW/month. The BESS plant will be set at the Choutuppal substation in Telangana.
