Coal India Commissions 100 MW Solar Power Plant in Gujarat

Coal India Ltd. receives GEDA certification for 100 MW Gujarat solar plant commissioned from March 2026.

Coal India Ltd. has officially commissioned a 100 MW solar power plant in Gujarat, marking a significant step in its transition toward cleaner energy.

The company has recently received the commissioning certificate from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) for the project located at Bhadramali village in Deesa, Banaskantha district. The plant has been operational with effect from March 31, 2026.

The commissioning of this solar facility highlights Coal India’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy portfolio beyond coal and strengthen its presence in the renewable energy sector.

Recently, Coal India reported solar capital expenditure of INR 961 crore till January FY26, surpassing its annual target. The company is also evaluating large-scale renewable projects through joint ventures, including proposed solar developments in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

In Rajasthan, the company is developing an 875 MW solar project in Bikaner through CIL Rajasthan Akshay Urja Ltd. (CRAUL), its joint venture with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. Coal India has approved a INR 3,160 crore corporate guarantee for project financing, while Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy is expected to execute the EPC works. In Uttar Pradesh, Coal India plans a renewable energy joint venture with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited covering nearly 500 MW capacity.
