Coal India has announced that the company has received a letter of award (LOA) to develop 600 MW of solar projects at Jalaun Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh from Bundelkhand Saur Urja.
The company will develop two 300 MW solar projects for supplying power at a tariff of INR 2.73/kWh, the company stated in a regulatory filing. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA).
The estimated cost of the project is INR 2831.11 crore.
Coal India continues to maintain an aggressive renewable energy expansion strategy focused on capacity deployment. The company is targeting 3 GW of renewable energy capacity by FY28 and plans to scale this up to 9.5 GW by FY30.
Further, the company has forayed into the battery energy storage systems (BESS) segment. Last month, Coal India received a letter of award from GRIDCO, Odisha, for setting up four BESS projects with a cumulative capacity of 80 MW/320 MWh across two clusters in Odisha, at an estimated cost of INR 400 crore.
In March 2026, Coal India secured an 187.5 MW/750 MWh BESS project from Telangana Power Generation Corporation at a tariff of INR 3.14 lakh/MW/month. The BESS plant will be set at the Choutuppal substation in Telangana.
