Coal India Ltd. (CIL) has appointed Neopulse Energy Pvt. Ltd. as the Owner’s Engineer for its proposed 80 MW/320 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Odisha. The company will provide technical advisory and engineering oversight during the selection of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor and subsequent project execution.

As part of the pre-award responsibilities, Neopulse Energy will assist CIL in preparing technical specifications, defining equipment requirements and evaluating technical bids submitted by prospective EPC contractors.

Following the award of the EPC contract, Neopulse Energy will review the contractor’s engineering designs, vendor documentation and quality plans. Its scope will also cover technical supervision of equipment manufacturing, construction activities, testing and commissioning.

The 80 MW/320 MWh installation will have a four-hour storage duration. The project is expected to provide grid flexibility and support the integration of renewable energy into the electricity network. Battery storage systems can help manage variations in solar and wind power generation and improve the reliability of electricity supply.

The appointment places Neopulse Energy in an advisory and technical oversight role, with responsibilities extending from the EPC tendering process through project commissioning.
