CG Power Rolls Out First Transformer from Sehore Plant in Madhya Pradesh

CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. has rolled out the first power transformer from its new greenfield manufacturing facility at Sehore in Madhya Pradesh, marking the start of operations at what the company described as India’s largest single location power transformer manufacturing facility.

The first transformer was rolled out  at the facility developed on land allocated by the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (MPIDC). The company had announced plans for the greenfield transformer business in January 2025 and subsequently received land allocation for the project in August 2025.

Spread across 50 acres, the Sehore facility is designed to manufacture 220 kV to 1200 kV class power transformers. The plant is planned with a total manufacturing capacity of 45,000 MVA and is capable of rolling out up to 35 power transformers a month.

Construction of the facility began in October 2025 after the land lease was acquired in the name of CG Power and Industrial Solutions in June 2025. A portion of the plant is now operational with an installed manufacturing capacity of 10,000 MVA. The remaining sections will be commissioned in phases, with production capacity expected to progressively increase to the planned 45,000 MVA.

Once the new capacity is fully operational, CG Power’s total transformer manufacturing capacity will increase to 1,20,000 MVA. The company currently has transformer manufacturing capacity of 75,000 MVA, comprising 65,000 MVA at its T3 plant and 10,000 MVA at its T2 plant, with existing capacity utilisation at 100 percent.

The company has allocated an investment of Rs 792 crore for the proposed capacity addition. The project is being financed through qualified institutional placement proceeds and internal accruals. CG Power said that the expansion is aimed at meeting rising demand from renewable energy projects, data centres and export markets.

The Sehore facility is designed to serve utilities, data centres, railways, renewable energy, oil and gas and transmission infrastructure projects. It is also expected to support the company’s expanding export business.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attended the rollout of the first transformer. He said that the facility would strengthen India’s capabilities in high voltage transmission equipment and contribute to the state’s industrial development. According to Yadav, the project is expected to create more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities in Sehore.

CG Power Chairman Vellayan Subbiah said that rising electricity demand would increase the need for power infrastructure equipment, adding that the Sehore facility had been built at scale to manufacture large power transformers for India and international markets.

Group CEO and Managing Director Amar Kaul said that the first transformer rollout came around 13 to 14 months after the project’s construction began. He attributed the pace of execution to support from the Madhya Pradesh government and the company’s execution framework, CG EDGE.

CG Power, headquartered in Mumbai, operates across industrial systems and power systems. Its portfolio includes traction motors, propulsion systems, signalling relays, induction motors, drives, transformers, switchgears and other electrical equipment. The company has also entered the semiconductor sector and is setting up an outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing facility.

The company has 22 manufacturing units across India and one in Sweden, along with 14 regional offices and 19 branch offices. It has more than 4,900 employees and reported consolidated revenue of INR 12,418 crore in FY26. CG Power has been part of the Murugappa Group since November 2020.
