Central Electronics Ltd. (CEL), in partnership with ESDS, is setting up a INR 1,000 crore green data centre in Ghaziabad. The foundation was laid by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the golden jubilee celebrations of CEL.
The facility will have a 30 MW capacity and Tier 3 uptime certification, aiming to bolster India’s digital infrastructure with sustainable solutions. The project will be built on the premises of CEL, government-owned Mini Ratna enterprise.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Jitendra Singh, State IT Minister Sunil Kumar Sharma, and Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun were present at the ceremony, marking the culmination of CEL’s golden jubilee celebrations.
Addressing the event, Adityanath highlighted CEL’s transformation from a company once facing uncertainty to a key contributor to India’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ mission. He described the data centre as the first-of-its-kind in the country, showcasing CEL’s technological potential in collaboration with IPO-bound ESDS.
Jitendra Singh emphasised CEL’s legacy, recalling how India’s first solar cell was developed here in 1977, an era when renewable energy was hardly recognised in the country. He credited strong leadership for steering CEL away from disinvestment and urged greater partnerships with the private sector to achieve national development goals.
The data centre will be built to Tier 3 standards, offering 99.982 percent uptime, equivalent to just 1.6 hours of downtime per year. It will feature 200 high-density racks per floor, 30 MW power capacity, and 40 Gbps connectivity, providing scalable and resilient infrastructure for India’s growing digital needs.
