The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has identified 73 critical power sector items that are currently imported due to technology gaps, limited domestic manufacturing, or scale challenges.

Out of these, 16 items are prioritised for immediate localisation. Key examples include, subsea HVDC/HVAC cables, HVDC valve assemblies, permanent magnets for actuators, porcelain and composite hollow insulators, modular Ethernet switches, epoxy and silicone insulation materials, and vacuum circuit breaker mechanisms.

The remaining 57 items require further detailed input from domestic and international manufacturers regarding cost, 10-year domestic demand, contribution to final product, current import levels, and government support required.

Stakeholders consulted include IEEMA, ABB, Aditya Birla, Polycab, Schneider, Toshiba, KEC, Sterlite, Dong-Woo Quantum India, Mehru, Destak, Jindal Aluminium, and Yash High Voltage.

CEA has requested submissions by 29 December 2025. This initiative aims to boost domestic manufacturing, reduce import reliance, enhance supply-chain resilience, and support Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives.
