The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Ministry of Power has sought details of domestic manufacturing capacity for Grid Forming (GFM) inverters, citing the growing share of renewable energy such as solar and wind and the need to ensure grid stability and reliability.
In a communication issued by the Energy Storage System Division, CEA said that it is important to assess India’s manufacturing capacity for GFM inverters to support future planning as well as policy, regulatory and technical interventions. The authority has requested all Grid Forming Inverter manufacturers in India to submit details of their manufacturing capacity along with other relevant information in a prescribed format.
Manufacturers have been asked to provide company contact details, installed manufacturing capacity of GFM inverters in India, and tentative costs of Grid Forming (GFM) and Grid Following (GFL) inverters produced domestically. Cost details are to be provided for different inverter sizes including 10 kW, 100 kW, 1 MW and the maximum size manufactured, covering both central and string inverter categories.
The information is to be submitted to CEA by February 10, 2026, CEA also directed its IT Division to upload the communication on the official CEA website.
