The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the proposed investment by British International Investment plc (BII) in ReNew Photovoltaics Private Ltd, marking a boost for India’s solar manufacturing sector.
BII, a development finance institution wholly owned by the UK government, supports private sector growth in developing countries by providing long-term, patient capital.
The investment involves BII subscribing to securities in ReNew Photovoltaics, which is engaged in the manufacturing of solar modules and solar cells in India.
It may be mentioned that ReNew Photovoltaics is building a 4 GW TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat. The BII investment will help fast-track its construction and operational rollout.
The CCI’s clearance paves the way for this strategic investment in India’s renewable energy supply chain. The detailed order from the Commission will be issued shortly.
