AFRY has been appointed as Owner’s Engineer (OE) for a 36 MWp (30 MWac) solar photovoltaic project integrated with a 10 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system in Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia.

The project, commissioned by Cenergi Aeropolis Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (CARE), will be located within the KLIA Aeropolis zone and is aimed at supplying renewable electricity directly to Kuala Lumpur International Airport under the Solar for Self-Consumption (SELCO) programme.

Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 46 GWh of electricity annually while reducing around 35,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. The integration of battery storage is expected to enhance energy reliability and operational resilience, placing the project among Malaysia’s early large-scale solar-plus-storage installations for self-consumption.

AFRY’s scope as Owner’s Engineer includes tender support, engineering design review, project management, construction supervision, and commissioning and testing of the battery energy storage system.

The development highlights growing momentum in Malaysia’s clean energy transition, particularly in deploying hybrid solar-plus-storage systems to ensure stable and low-carbon power supply for critical infrastructure.
