BSPGCL Floats Tender for 150 MW Solar Project with 75 MW/300 MWh BESS in Bihar
Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. has invited bids for a 150 MW solar project integrated with a 75 MW/300 MWh battery energy storage system, with bid submissions closing on August 21, 2026.

Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) has invited bids for the development of a 150 MW grid connected solar power project integrated with a 75 MW/300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), aimed at strengthening the state's renewable energy capacity and ensuring reliable electricity supply during peak demand periods.
The last date for submission of bids is August 21, 2026. Under the tender, developers can bid for a minimum capacity of 20 MW and a maximum of 75 MW, with capacity required to be quoted in multiples of 5 MW.
The project has been designed to deliver four hours of peak power supply daily using the integrated energy storage system. BSPGCL will determine the four hour discharge window based on daily grid demand, with the selected period including at least one hour of continuous battery discharge.
According to the tender document, the selected solar power developer must supply 2,000 kWh of energy per MW of the project's rated AC capacity during the designated peak hours. Energy supplied will be reconciled monthly in line with the schedule issued by the procurer.
The tender requires a minimum storage configuration of 0.5 MW/2 MWh of battery capacity for every 1 MW of installed solar capacity. Developers may either own the battery energy storage system or procure it through a third party, with the flexibility to modify the ownership structure during the project's lifecycle.
The bidding conditions specify that a single bidder, or its parent, affiliate or group company, may submit bids ranging from 20 MW to 75 MW. Any capacity not quoted in multiples of 5 MW will be rounded down to the nearest multiple for evaluation.
BSPGCL will notify successful developers of the daily four hour peak demand period during which electricity must be supplied from the battery energy storage system, a measure intended to improve grid reliability and ensure adequate power availability during periods of high demand.
In 2025, BSPGCL awarded a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS project to six developers, including Barbrik Projects, Saatvik Green Energy, Kundan Green Energy, Prostarm Info Systems, Hindustan Thermal Project (Hindustan Power) and Suryam International, at a tariff of around INR 4.44 lakh per MW per month.
Earlier, Prostarm Info Systems also received a Letter of Intent from BSPGCL for the development of a 30 MW/120 MWh standalone battery energy storage system.
The new solar plus storage project is expected to improve renewable energy integration, enhance grid flexibility, strengthen Bihar's energy storage infrastructure and support reliable clean power supply to meet rising electricity demand.
