In a significant step toward enhancing urban grid resilience, BSES has commissioned a 60 kW / 200 kWh Community Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Saket, South Delhi, bringing decentralised energy storage directly into residential neighbourhoods.
The project was inaugurated by Abhishek Ranjan, CEO of BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd. (BRPL), in the presence of senior utility officials. The installation marks a strategic move toward deploying distributed energy solutions to address localised grid challenges.
The community-scale BESS is designed to reduce peak load stress on distribution transformers, improve voltage stability, and ensure a more reliable electricity supply, particularly during high-demand periods. By situating storage assets closer to consumption points, BSES aims to enhance operational efficiency and deliver improved service quality to end-users.
The Saket deployment builds on the success of BSES’ earlier BESS project at Kilokri, reinforcing its approach of developing a layered and intelligent grid infrastructure across Delhi. Such systems play a critical role in managing demand fluctuations and integrating renewable energy sources at the distribution level.
Aligned with the Delhi Government’s vision of a 'Viksit Delhi,' BSES continues to invest in advanced technologies to modernise the power distribution network. The utility said that the compact yet high-impact installation represents a key step in strengthening last-mile reliability and supporting the capital’s transition toward a cleaner and more resilient energy future.
