BRPL, REConnect Energy Sign Agreement for 25 MWh BESS in Delhi

BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd. has signed an agreement with REConnect Energy’s SPV FlexGrid One to develop a 12.5 MW/25 MWh grid-forming BESS at the Shivalik Grid Substation in South Delhi, with commissioning expected by April 2027.

BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd. (BRPL) has announced signing an agreement with FlexGrid One, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of REConnect Energy Solutions, to develop a 12.5 MW/25 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Shivalik Grid Substation in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi.
 
The Shivalik BESS will deploy grid-forming inverter technology designed to establish and maintain grid voltage and frequency, enabling the system 0to provide grid stability and support during disturbances. The project is expected to be commissioned around April 2027, stated BRPL.
 
With two hours of storage capacity, the BESS will support peak demand, enhance voltage and frequency stability, assist grid restoration following blackouts and facilitate greater integration of renewable energy into the power network.
 
The project has been approved by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) and was competitively procured, with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) serving as the Bid Process Coordinator.
 
The grid-forming inverter technology support is being provided by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under StoREin (Energy Storage for Renewable Energy Integration in India), an Indo-German cooperation project commissioned under the International Climate Initiative and led by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
 
FlexGrid One was represented by Chetan Adhikari, Director – Business Development, REConnect Energy, during the agreement signing, which was attended by BRPL CEO Abhishek Ranjan, Bernhard Voelcker of GIZ and senior officials from BRPL, FlexGrid One, World Resources Institute (WRI) and TERI.
 
The project will add to BRPL’s existing battery storage portfolio, following the operational 20 MW/40 MWh Kilokri BESS. With the Shivalik project, BRPL’s grid-level BESS capacity will increase to 32.5 MW/65 MWh.
