Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) has announced the nationwide rollout of PNG and CNG Drive 2.0, aligning with India’s clean energy transition and the government’s vision to increase the share of natural gas in the national energy mix.
The national launch also marked the debut of new television commercials under the PNG Drive 2.0 campaign, implemented on behalf of the PNGRB Industry Committee. The TVCs feature actor and Member of Parliament, Ravi Kishan, endorsing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and actor Sakshi Tanwar, promoting Piped Natural Gas (PNG). The campaign highlights natural gas as a safe, affordable, convenient and environmentally responsible energy solution.
The nationwide awareness campaign will run from January 1 to March 31, 2026, under the guidance of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). It involves participation from all City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities across India and aims to accelerate PNG adoption across residential, commercial and industrial segments, alongside increased use of CNG for mobility.
Addressing the media, Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), BPCL, said PNG and CNG Drive 2.0 represents a strong step towards nation building and improving ease of living. He noted that natural gas ensures safety, uninterrupted supply and significantly lower carbon emissions, supporting cleaner air and India’s vision of a gas based economy amid rapid urbanisation and mobility growth.
The campaign theme ‘Non-Stop Zindagi’ positions natural gas as ‘gas on tap,’ a continuous, worry-free fuel for homes, businesses and transport. PNG eliminates the inconvenience of cylinder refills while enhancing safety, whereas CNG offers cleaner mobility without compromising driving performance.
Rahul Tandon, Business Head–Gas, highlighted that the initiative reflects pan-India collaboration among public and private CGD entities to position natural gas as a life enabler supporting households, commerce, industry and mobility, while advancing India’s climate goals, including Net Zero by 2070.
Neera Asthana Phate, General Manager, Corporate Communications and CRM, Mahanagar Gas, emphasised that PNG and CNG serve as constant companions throughout life powering homes, offices, restaurants and transportation, adding that widespread public outreach will help drive a nationwide clean energy movement.
Raman Malik, Head–PR and Brand, BPCL, underscored the importance of clear and credible communication in advancing India’s clean energy transition, stating that effective media engagement helps translate policy objectives into informed public adoption.
India’s CGD infrastructure has expanded significantly over the past decade, growing from 25–30 geographical areas in 2014 to 307 authorised areas, covering nearly the entire mainland. Against a target of 12.64 crore PNG household connections and 18,336 CNG stations by 2034, India has already achieved 1.61 crore PNG connections and over 8,500 CNG stations, supported by more than three lakh kilometre-inch of pipelines.
Natural gas consumption in the CGD sector has risen from 14.8 MMSCMD to 42 MMSCMD, reflecting strong consumer adoption. PNGRB reforms, including the ‘One Nation, One Grid, One Tariff’ policy, have further improved affordability and access, resulting in reduced PNG and CNG prices nationwide.
